Cucina Rustica Reviews

Cucina Rustica is a delightful dining experience and a definite asset to the North Georgia area.

The Restaurant is owned and operated by John and Isabella Mullinari, who are both second-generation restaurateurs. Isabella prepares the fabulously authentic Italian Cuisine herself, while John works the front of the house greeting customer and making them feel like old friends.

The menu features Italian country cuisine and definitely highlights their northern Italian heritage. The emphasis is on light, flavorful but not overpowering sauces and fresh ingredients. To add a special touch, a wood-fired oven is used to prepare baked dishes. John explained that, "Some wood-fired ovens have an added gas capability but ours uses only wood."

The layout of the restaurant is interesting as there are three separate dining areas all with wood paneling creating a warm and friendly atmosphere. The separate dining areas enable the seating of private parties.

My first visit to Cucina Rustica was with a dear friend who is a bit of a cynic when it comes to the local dining establishments, but on that particular night proximity was more of an issue than was quality, so we decided to give it a try. The experience was a pure delight.

Our attentive server arrived quickly with water and a basket of warm foccacia bread, and prior to the arrival of our entrees a generous house salad of fresh crisp greens and tomatoes was served family style.

The evening special was filet mignon with Porcini sauce, which my companion chose. The filet was deliciously tender and served with a side of mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. My companion later praised the filet as being the best she had tasted since leaving the Atlanta area. My decision, however, was more difficult as I saw several items on the menu that interested me. Wanting to try something different, I chose the Crespelle al Forno, Baked Spinach and Ricotta Crepes and was not disappointed.

Served in an individual casserole, the crepes were topped with a Parmigiano beschamel sauce. The sauce was incredibly creamy and with just the perfect amount of seasoning to complement the spinach and ricotta cheese crepes. Be careful, since the dish is very hot as it comes to the table directly from the wood-fired oven.

We did miss out on dessert as we were both fully sated by our meal and couldn't find room for it, but the choices had several chocolate delights including Torta de Chocolata, chocolate cake, served with Hagen Daz vanilla ice cream. The next time I am definitely going to save room for the Tiramisu Della Mamma. It is Isabella's grandmother's recipe and has orange liquor as its special ingredient.

For those who enjoy a glass of wine or a cold beer with their dinner, Cucina Rustica is one of the first restaurants in Fannin County to receive a pouring license.

Cucina Rustica is located just a few short miles northeast of Blue Ridge, GA off Highway 515. Business hours are from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday with reservations strongly recommended and can be made at 706-374-7474.

Restaurants in the North Georgia mountains are take 'em or leave 'em, but there are a few that we tend to frequent and will be adding Cucina Rustica to this list. They have apparently been open since Nov, 2007, but we have been staying on the Ellijay side of Blue Ridge until recently and therefore missed the fact that this spot on the hill overlooking Hwy 515 was now the best restaurant in the North Georgia mountains. That may be saying a lot for a first time, but the salad (family style w/ an excellent vinaigrette), bread (garlic focaccia) and entrees (Veal Rustica and Tortellini) were all great.

We will definitely make sure to visit each time we come to the area! Thanks John and Isabella for giving us a great spot in the mountains to grab a great dinner!

My husband and I are self proclaimed "foodies" and love eating out. Most of our vacations focus around where we're going to eat and when. So we thought we'd tell you about one of our favorite restaurants in Blue Ridge and why we enjoy it so much. For a good dinner out our favorite restaurant in Blue Ridge is Cucina Rustica.

We have been recommending this restaurant for about a year now based on friends reviews, and so we wanted to experience this fine dining experience for ourselves. We were not disappointed - the food was amazing! As good as you will get in Atlanta, and we are not that easily impressed, as we love good food. The portions are very generous, so much in fact we just couldn't fit dessert in.
